Senlin Gui

Initially self-taught, later formally educated in fine arts, Senlin Gui is a well-known contemporary artist of Tokyo, with numerous of his art pieces collected by museums, businesses and individuals. Receiving international recognition of his artwork and praising reviews in the most prestigious newspapers and magazines in China and Japan, Senlin is continuously challenging the mind and the eye, constantly exploring and expanding the range of ideas and subjects in his paintings. These explorations often result in vibrantly colored art pieces that are both expressive and communicative, each telling its own special story. Read more...

Senlin’s pieces draw their power from his zest for life and passion for art. His favored mediums are oil, watercolor and sketching. His creative and unusual use of color and blending of mediums is impressive and makes his pieces thoroughly distinctive.

The unique techniques Gui has developed help him create paintings with lyrical intensity and convey a rich vision of his understanding of figure, objects and scenery. Although his paintings are based on reality, they evoke responses akin to those from poems or dreams, capturing particular moods, motions or atmospheres. “I find myself constantly seeking the connection between color, movement and feeling”, says Senlin about his works.
