My name is Michelle Lan. I was born and raised in the beautiful country-side of Wau-Len in Taiwan. I realized at an early age I had a talent for art. When it was time to choose a career, the obvious choice was art and I studied interior and commercial design at the Home Economic University in Taiwan. Read more...

After graduating from university, I worked for a real estate company as a commercial and interior designer where I gained sufficient experience to give me the confidence to start my own real estate company in 1975. My business was so successful that I received the first National Woman Entrepreneur Award in 1997. For many years I studied Chinese ink, water, pastel and acrylic painting and calligraphy. In Canada I studied oil painting with numerous teachers and was influenced mostly by Barrie Chadwick and Xu-min. Xu-min taught me to improve my painting skills and how to appreciate colour. My current painting style is known as "Impressionism". I have participated in numerous group art exhibitions in Vancouver and Taipei. I had my own exhibition between February 15th and March 15th, 2008, in Taipei where the majority of my paintings sold. I believe the exhibition was very successful because the television stations reported it in their news hour broadcasts on more than one occasion. I am a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the West Vancouver Community Arts Council. I presently attend sketching classes at Emily Carr Institute and I published my own picture prose book titled "Desire of Colorful Life". I am represented by the Howe Street Gallery of Fine Art. My goal is to expose my artwork through solo exhibitions in Canada. |
