THE ARTIST STATEMENT My work reflects a commitment to preserving the characteristic heritage views of our vanishing countryside. My passion has led me to work very hard to master the discipline required to produce copper plate etchings, each plate requiring several weeks to complete. Since 1989, I have been sketching and painting scenes in Richmond and Delta, B.C. with the same intention. I treasure the historical architectural images of a culture fast succumbing to pay homage to the people who created these structures. JOSEPH WONG (WONG CHI TIM) was born in China in 1948. He moved to Hong Kong with his family when he was 6 years old. Joseph accumulated his painting techniques mostly from experiments by himself. Between 1980 and 1982, he made four trips to Europe where he visited museums, print rooms and workshops of artists. Latter he started his own print making in the extramural studies in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. From 1984 to 1989 he was a part time lecturer in the Fine Arts Department in the University of Hong Kong. Joseph and his family moved to Canada in 1989. Now he resides in Richmond B.C. He has been a part time Art Instructor in Kwantlen University College for the past 10 years. His worksare in collections of Hong Kong Museum of Art, and in Fung Ping Shan Museum, University of Hong Kong and in private collections. In 1994 he became a signature member in the Federation of Canadian Artists. |
