As a child growing up with this this wondrous world around him, Ant grew to paint it with a passion that is unsurpassed and is reflected in his art. "Africa is easily the world's most fascinating continent. Cities and towns can be duplicated almost anywhere in the world, but the great natural spectacle that is Africa is irreplaceable. Africa's jewel is it's wondrous theatre of the natural world - unbelievable wildlife set in scenery that captivates the imagination. Without it Africa is reduced to mere normality: with it Africa is rich beyond all others. As a wildlife artist I travel as often as I possibly can into this haven, observing without intruding, absorbing the smells, the sounds, the harsh beauty and the ever changing drama, always planning my next canvas. I consider myself very fortunate." Working mostly in oils on large canvases, Ant also works in both watercolours, and pencil. In 2007 Ant's painting of endangered African Painted Dogs was chosen for David Shepherd's inaugural "Art for Survival" at Christies in London, where he has also twice been a finalist for " Wildlife Artist of the Year". His work hangs in homes throughout the world, but he sees his greatest contribution as helping to save Africa's imperilled wildlife, and the habitat that sustains it, for without the habitat the wildlife will perish. Ant and his wife, Jenny, live in Harare, Zimbabwe and have 4 children. Other than being in the wilds of Africa and painting, Ant's passions include coaching tennis and breeding Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs. |
